But it was so worth it.
I have to admit, I imagined Meaghan out on the pitch daydreaming, crying, unfocused, or generally disinterested. Was I wrong. She was right into it, beaming the entire time! Kicks to the shin, or being tousled about in a mob - none of that mattered. She adored it. She ran hard, went for the ball, headed in the right direction, understood the importance of defence. WOW. I'm so thrilled.
Normally, she was all about defending the net (they played 3 on 3 without goalies), but in the last couple of games some unbridled aggression (or should be it assertiveness since she's a girl?) got her going hard to the net and she scored some goals.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not proud because she's some sort of superstar (doesn't every mom think that?), but because she went out, worked hard and had fun.
The season has ended. She has packed away her shin pads, socks & shorts. Now, as we watch the World Cup she undoubtedly imagines herself running across that soccer pitch and kicking the ball into the net for a GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!
