On the Victoria Day long weekend, my sister and I took our daughters to Seattle for a girls weekend away.
My sister is a terrific travel companion. She can stay up late, or get up early, eat here or there, this or that, go here or there, now or later. She is not high maintenance. Her sense of humour and sharpness are second to none. She is adventurous, fun-loving and interested in the world. Every trip we've been on, including this one, has been amazing and given us both wonderful memories.
The dynamic of this trip changed with the addition of our girls, ages 6 and 10, but I'm happy to say the change was positive. The girls are developing into mighty fine travellers. Plus, I love that we were able to spend so much time together. You really don't get to know someone until you've travelled with them.
Meaghan came away from the weekend feeling much more grown up than when we left since she could go off with my niece to shop in the kids section while I tried on some clothes.
My niece also felt so much more grown up when she got to stay up later than Meaghan and could sit with my sister and I while we played "Remember When" about past trips we have taken together. I vividly remember this feeling when I got to sit in with Dad and his sisters playing the same game.
It will likely be a long time before we take another trip like this one, but I hope we can do it sooner rather than later.
