At long last, I have a clothesline. I had envisioned something much more elaborate - like you see in the movies, an old farm house with a long line holding sheets billowing in the breeze. But then @FionafromYEG convinced me to try the less spectacular umbrella clothesline. She is onto something. The umbrella clotheslines is quite fabulous. It took just a few minutes to put up; it holds a couple of (or more) loads of laundry; and the clothes smell terrific.
Most surprising about my new clothesline: I love standing out there hanging up the clothes, and taking them off the line. There's a peacefulness that comes with the task that I don't get anywhere else. It feels like just me and the birds out there. In fact, if I close my eyes, I can almost picture the old farmhouse and long line of billowing sheets.
I know my clothesline and I are still in the honeymoon phase, but I'm confident it will be a long and wonderful relationship.
