Sleep. And Why We Need It.

Apparently, the reason we need to sleep confounds scientists. They know we need it, but they don't really know why.

I know why mothers need it.

It's to give us a chance to recover from days that did not reflect our best parenting moments, and to let us start fresh in the morning. Something went off the rails this afternoon and no one was really very happy. We did recover nicely and from before supper until bedtime, things were ok.

Despite the good end to the evening with the kids, I'm currently feeling as though I have let everyone in the family down, for a variety of reasons. I know it's not quite true, and that we are harder on ourselves sometimes than anyone else. But feelings are feelings.

At least I know that with a good night's sleep, tomorrow will be much better. Today's failures won't seem nearly as huge as they do in this moment. Besides, with it being Valentine's Day tomorrow, my morning might just start off with a little bit of chocolate. That always makes any day brighter!
